Hosted dialler vs a DIY open-source build

Some teams build a dialler from open-source telephony software and run it themselves. Others take a hosted service. This page compares those two operating models. It does not name other products. 626Dialler is the hosted example: Alveus hosts it for every customer.

Last reviewed: 16 October 2026

This comparison describes two operating models in general terms. It is not a review of any named product, it is not legal advice, and it does not promise any outcome. 626Dialler details are taken from our pricing and product pages as at the date shown.

Who builds and runs itAlveus hosts 626Dialler for every customer. Your team runs campaigns and the settings that change the calls.Your team installs the software, hosts it, changes it, and is the first line when it fails.
Updates and capacityPlatform updates are part of the hosted service. Seats are added under the plan: up to 10 on Starter, up to 50 on Growth, unlimited on Enterprise. You schedule the upgrades and you size the servers and the trunks. The time that takes is part of the build.
DiallingPredictive dialling on every plan. Progressive, preview and manual on the plans set out on the pricing page. You set the abandon-rate target, and pacing eases off as the rate approaches it.You implement the dial modes and the pacing yourself, and you live with the behaviour that code produces.
Lists and CLITPS and CTPS suppression on every plan. Calls use the numbers you configure. Twilio is available on Growth and Enterprise. You can connect your own SIP trunk.Screening, CLI and trunks are components you wire up and keep current.
CRM626CRM, our own hosted CRM, is included on Growth and Enterprise. Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics and Zendesk connect to a CRM you already use, with activity written back after each call. You build or maintain each connection. 626Dialler has a documented REST API.
Recordings and paymentsCall recording is on the platform. PCI payment processing is available, and recordings can use PCI pause. On Enterprise, AI transcription and sentiment are available.Recording, payment capture and any transcription are parts of the system you assemble and look after.
Support24/7 email and WhatsApp support on every plan, priority handling on Growth, and a named account manager on Enterprise. The people who built it, or a contract you put in place. There is no Alveus support desk for a system Alveus does not host.

Same calls, different operator

A DIY build starts from open-source telephony software that your own team installs and changes. A hosted dialler is a service the provider runs. The person who answers the phone cannot tell which of those you chose. They can tell if nobody speaks, if the number is withheld, or if they asked not to be called and were called anyway.

Ofcom's statement of 20 December 2016, in force since 1 March 2017, names no abandoned-call threshold and says action against silent calls is likely to be its highest priority. PECR regulation 21 is what the ICO enforces for live marketing calls and the TPS. Those rules apply to the calls you place. They do not switch off because you compiled the dialler yourselves. The persistent misuse guide and the TPS and CTPS guide cite the official pages.

What you are actually choosing

Choose a DIY build when you have people who will patch, capacity-plan and answer a failure at the hour your campaign runs, and when you want to change the software yourselves. Choose a hosted dialler when you want that operational work done by the provider and you are content to run campaigns inside the product as it is. 626Dialler is the second of those. It is not offered on this site as software you install.

Cost is not a single number. A DIY build has servers, trunks, the people who run them, and the build and testing time before the first list dials. A hosted plan is seat-based. See the pricing page for what each plan includes. Compare those on your own figures. This page does not estimate either side.

The cloud and on-premise comparison is the neighbouring question, for teams who already have a dialler product and are deciding where it runs. Pricing lists the 626Dialler plans. Book a demo if you want the hosted product shown.

Questions

Is 626Dialler something we install ourselves?

No. Alveus hosts 626Dialler for every customer. This page compares that hosted service with the separate job of building and running your own dialler.

Does a DIY build change the abandoned-call rules?

No. Ofcom's current persistent-misuse statement names no abandoned-call threshold, and it applies to the calls that are made. You would still set pacing, the information message and CLI in whatever system you operate.

What does the hosted plan include that we would otherwise build?

Predictive dialling on every plan, progressive and preview on Growth and Enterprise, TPS and CTPS suppression, and call recording with PCI pause. PCI payment processing is available. Twilio is available on Growth and Enterprise, and you can connect your own SIP trunk. 626CRM is on Growth and Enterprise. AI transcription and sentiment are on Enterprise. A documented REST API is available.
